Beef Curry
My partner is from India so of course he wants food from his home country. I never knew how to make any kind of Indian food, but with his help he taught me. Now I make many Indian dishes with ease. As an American I have always been interested in making foods from different countries. I love hot and spicy foods and with alot of trial and errors I think I have accomplished this one. This is my recipe for beef curry. It is very hot and spicy but really good. Give it a try, it looks hard but in reality is very easy.
Ingredients
- 1 pound of cubed beef cut into small pieces
- 1 tomato cut in half then sliced
- 1 onion cut in half and sliced
- 1 teaspoon of ginger chopped
- 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 3 green chilies cut in half
- 5 curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- pepper to taste
Preparation
In a fry pan saute the onions, chilies, ginger, mustard seeds, curry leaves and garlic. Cook until onions are cooked through and browned. After the onions are completely cooked through then you can add the cut up beef. Cook until beef is cooked through. Once the beef is completely cooked turn down the heat to medium and then add the turmeric, chili powder, coriander, and salt and pepper . Fry for a few minutes to cook the spices, be careful while cooking the spices because sometimes it gives off a very strong smell. I have burned my eyes and throat with this mixture when I was not used to making this dish. After a couple minutes of the spices cooking you then add the tomato and two cups of water. Let cook on low heat until it forms a gravy. Serve with white rice
